Kenya Bids Farewell to Fallen Hero: General Ogolla Laid to Rest

Kenya mourned the loss of its Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Francis Ogolla, who was buried with full military honors on Sunday, April 21st, 2024. The ceremony, held at his home village of Ng’iya in Siaya County, was a somber yet heartwarming tribute to a national hero.

A Nation in Mourning:

President William Ruto led the nation in paying his respects to General Ogolla. He hailed the late CDF as a “great military leader who served his country with passion and unwavering commitment.” Thousands of mourners, including dignitaries, military personnel, and local residents, gathered to pay their final respects. The atmosphere was filled with a deep sense of loss and national pride.

A Colourful Military Farewell:

The burial ceremony was a testament to General Ogolla’s distinguished military career. A 19-gun salute echoed through the village, a traditional honor bestowed upon high-ranking military officials. Military officers marched in a solemn procession, their movements a symbol of respect and discipline. The ceremony also included speeches, hymns, and a final farewell from General Ogolla’s family.

Honoring a Special Request:

In a unique display of his character, General Ogolla expressed a wish to be buried without a coffin. His family honored his request, wrapping him in a white sheet according to his traditional beliefs. This final act reflected his humility and connection to his cultural roots.

A Legacy of Service:

General Ogolla’s leadership and dedication to Kenya’s security will be remembered for years to come. His passing leaves a void in the nation’s military leadership, but his legacy serves as an inspiration to future generations. The outpouring of national grief and the emotional ceremony at his burial are a true testament to the immense respect Kenyans held for their fallen hero.
